Design playmate… The famous Dutch architect, Ben van Berkel, took inspiration from his personal experience as a parent to create Doraff. This colourful, highly fun and versatile piece of furniture is a real springboard for toddlers' imagination, who will delightedly ride it. Doraff was designed in accordance with children's needs, to stimulate this fundamental journey, which, via active play, develops their creativity and their independence. Doraff is a piece of furniture that is meant to be handled: you turn it one way and the other to discover all its features. Depending on how it is positioned, Doraff looks like the stylised outline of a dog (in the lower position) or a giraffe (in the higher position). Its hybrid and polymorphous form leaves it completely up to the children’s imagination and creativity. Doraff can be used for different purposes, inviting children to follow their wonderful imagination. Placed such that it looks like the abstract form of a giraffe, it offers a high and practical backrest, but the child can also ride it like a horse and hug its long neck. When Doraff is in the lower position, evoking a dog, the top of the head serves as a small table: the child can sit down while using the section corresponding to the head like a table top on which to play, draw, eat or enjoy a snack. Made from 100% recyclable polyethylene, Doraff is lightweight, sturdy and can be used outdoors. Its rounded lines and the lightness of the plastic material are safe for toddlers. It is designed to ensure complete stability when it is used as a seat by children.Doraff serves as both a seat and a sculpture: highly decorative, this stylised animal with clean lines proudly stands out, decorating the room with its original presence. Doraff is a seat, but also a furniture element which highlights the space in which it is set up: a presence with an original and colourful design which enriches the space. The designer, Ben van Berkel: Doraff is a new kind of fun furniture which evokes both the shape of a dog and that of a giraffe, in the form of a versatile object for children. At once a chair, a table and a family presence, Doraff is also able to stimulate children's imagination through play. Children can imagine they are riding a giraffe or playing with a dog, or they can easily flip over the unit to use the different surfaces to play read or enjoy their snack on. Doraff is a hybrid concept, halfway between a piece of furniture and a sensory object, in addition to being an object that can be used in a variety of contexts.
