Jasper Morrison, known for thinking outside the box, is one of the most successful industrial designers of recent decades. A champion of the super-normal, he advocates a sober, useful and responsible design. His creations are represented in the Museum of Modern Art in New York and in other collections of eminent museums around the world. Jasper Morrison's EVO-C chair echoes Verner Panton's iconic Panton Chair – which 60 years earlier was the first chair moulded in plastic from a single block – from which it takes up the characteristic cantilever design. Vitra and Jasper Morrison have succeeded in transposing the basic principle and distinctive comfort of the classic cantilever chair into an ergonomic model made entirely of 100% recyclable polypropylene. Using current gas injection moulding technology, plastic structures can achieve the proven strength and rigidity of cantilever constructions made of tubular steel. Very solid, the supporting structure of the EVO-C chair is made up of hollow tubular elements that fit perfectly into the flat surfaces of the seat and back. As always, Jasper Morrison has got rid of any unnecessary details, focusing his very pure design entirely on stability and comfort. The unity of the material gives EVO-C a formal clarity. Its outline is so graceful that it almost disappears under the person sitting on it. And when not in use, the chair looks like a sculpture.
