Kartell Small reading lamp Red Metal. Dimensions: Ø 41 x H 132 cm. Designed by Ferruccio Laviani, Geen-A is a reading light specially designed to provide optimal lighting for reading. Its intermediate height (smaller than a traditional floor lamp) and functional, glare-free lighting provide you with perfect visual comfort for reading in an armchair, sofa or bed. Entirely made of steel, it consists of an assembly of simple geometric shapes, round and balanced. The large dome that forms the lampshade is surmounted by a handle for easy movement. The Geen-A reading lamp has a dimmer that adjusts the light intensity. Ferruccio Laviani explains: “The idea was to create a simple lamp, which wasn’t too technical, but decorative, and which could also be used in other situations, next to a bed or bedside table, for example. And in fact, this lamp has a somewhat unusual height, between floor lamp and table lamp. With its simple soul, Geen-A has no special technology. I didn't want those built-in LEDs that you don't know how to replace, but three lovely bulbs that people continue to prefer. The lampshade is reminiscent of an oriental headdress, so much so that at Kartell, it was immediately renamed „the Chinese girl“. The name Geen-A pays tribute to the designer's mother, Giacomina, a great fan of reading: “I always remember my mum with a book in her hand. And this is nearly always the case in photographs. She said if she had nothing else, she would have read the packaging on a piece of cheese. So when it came to coming up with a name for Kartell's first reading light, the name just happened.”
