valerie objects Rocking chair Yellow Textile. Dimensions: L 60 x Depth 82 cm x H 65.5 cm. Known as Muller Van Severen, the Flemish design duo Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen work at the intersection of art and design. They are among the most prominent creators of the moment. From galleries to museums, not to mention collectors, design enthusiasts and design houses, everyone loves their minimalist, colourful furniture, timeless and joyful. In less than a decade, Muller Van Severen has become a key player in design, to the point of winning numerous awards and increasing collaborations with prestigious museums (Pompidou Centre, Vitra museum, etc.). It was in 2012 that the creative duo initiated this collection of seats. That year, they were chosen to mount an exhibition at the Kortrijk Interieur Biennale. As the space where the event was held had no seats, the designers decided to remedy this by creating a collection of seats with a simple basic concept: stretch a piece of cloth between two steel bars. This incredible rocking chair, inspired by the lounge chair, allows for gentle relaxation. This rocking chair is characterised by its graphic design: this piece of furniture that plays with transparency is imbued with great visual lightness. It oscillates in space without ever covering up the background. It doesn’t interrupt your space or impose with its presence, and can fit into any decor. A clever blend of sobriety and originality, it offers the maximum effect with a minimum of substance. This rocking chair consists of an extremely thin and airy steel structure on which a flexible, fluid canvas is suspended (in leather or linen), which seems to float. The rocking chair comes in pretty colour combinations. A true invitation to relax, the flexibility of the suspended canvas leaves plenty of room for comfort. You feel like you’re in a hammock! This armchair is ideal for setting up a relaxation area in a living room, office, reading room… Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen, ex-sculptor and ex-photographer respectively, infuse each of their pieces with a touch of poetry. Hannes explains: “Design is linked to function. We come from the visual arts. So we’re just trying to create sculptural furniture to occupy space. Art or design, creation takes place the same way … and provides the same satisfaction. Poetry is possible even in the industrial”, concludes Fien.
