Dimensions: 200 × 300 cm – Thickness: 1.8 cm. “A window on the world to which we belong”: this is how Italian designer Marcantonio likes to describe his Cielo and Terra rugs. These representations of nature in the style of ancient frescoes are a way of always keeping in mind the world from which we come, the animals we would have met while walking in the forests several millennia ago, and the sky we would have seen when looking up to catch a ray of sunshine. This luxuriant nature populated by animals of all kinds could have been the view of the first men evolving in their environment. Cielo and Terra rugs encourage us to reflect on the fact that, in history, tools influenced not only our interaction with the environment, but the art forms we used to represent it as well. These rugs reproduce scenes of flora and fauna in a style that largely recalls 17th-century images. An era which for the first time provided a “modern interpretation” of nature as the origin of all life, a living whole intrinsically linked to humanity because biodiversity is us, ourselves and everything that lives on earth. This creation is part of the „Atavica“ capsule collection created by Italian designer Marcantonio. This symbolic collection brings together objects with a “primitive” morphology. Here, Marcantonio explores the relationship between Man and his environment, from prehistoric times to the present day. How has the relationship between man and his environment changed over the millennia? What distinguishes the interaction between today's man and the space in which he moves, from that which was created between the first inhabitants of the planet and the nature that surrounded them? The Atavicase collection includes the Cielo and Terra rugs, Primasedia chair, Selce mirror and Ramo coat stand. All these objects share a powerful objective: to be the 2.0 expression of ancient materials and symbols.
