Alessi Squeezer Metal Metal. Dimensions: Ø 14 x H 29 cm. Notice to collectors, design fans and everyone who’d like to rediscover the essential figures of Italian design! The iconic Italian brand Alessi is celebrating its 100th anniversary with the “Alessi 100 Values Collection”: this collection celebrates the values that define the identity and practice of the Dream Factory (Fabbrica dei Sogni). A collection of surprising objects, from the Alessi Museum's Archive Fund, which includes projects that have never been produced before, brand-new versions of cult objects as well as icons in the making. Twelve projects, each referring to a different value, will be presented over twelve months, from May 2021 to April 2022. „Alessi 100 Values Collection“ celebrates 100 years of applied arts research and the start of a new century of experimentation. The eighth value placed in the spotlight by Alessi is Borderline: right on the frontier between the possible and the impossible is the Juicy Salif Studio no. 3 citrus press by Philippe Starck. A fascinating test piece by an Alessi staple, with a strong sculptural presence. Alberto Alessi explains: “Borderline: that fine line that separates the possible from the impossible. As far as design is concerned, this is the line that marks the border between a project that will be understood, appreciated and coveted, and one that will remain misunderstood and so never find its audience. It’s actually a fuzzy line, one that cannot be understood by market research. You can only guess where it stands by making careful use of sensitivity and agreeing to take a few risks. Working on the limit is the vocation of an Italian design factory like Alessi. Exploring the limits of what’s possible, seeking each time to go beyond them, or rather to push them back, gets across the idea that we’re making progress and our contribution to the evolution of consumer society. Juicy Salif Studio no.3: one of Alessi's most iconic creations is justifiably a good example of this design that seeks the limits. Starck's „Juicy Salif“ citrus press, the project that intentionally set itself the goal of pushing the limits, nevertheless managed to win over the public, which makes it a real textbook case! Thanks mainly to the genius of its creator, but also to the care we took in developing the initial concept, this model has established itself and still remains one of our best sellers. So we decided to offer a limited edition version of a “design essay”, created at the beginning of the project, in which the function seems to disappear altogether in favour of sculptural lines…” With Juicy Salif Studio no.3 , Philippe Starck's iconic citrus press is revealed to the public in its original form. Sketched by the designer on a placemat in a pizzeria while on holiday on the island of Capraia in Tuscany, Juicy Salif has established itself as „the most controversial juicer of the 20th century“. Spider, sea monster or spaceship, it’s an object that’s sparked the imagination of the public from its first appearance. Juicy Salif Studio no. 3 is an unprecedented version which reproduces one of the very first prototypes, whose sculptural nature, always at the origin of the fascination exerted by this enigmatic object, is here shown off to best effect by the use of bronze. This object is dedicated to all collectors of Philippe Starck's most provocative creations and to fans of unique or short series pieces who wish to build their own design gallery. Philippe Starck: “Juicy Salif doesn’t exist to squeeze lemons; its interest lies in the images it elicits, the ability of this micro-sculpture to let our imaginations run wild. Some have even seen a phallic shape in it, which I must admit I hadn't thought of. It just takes someone to ask, ‘What’s this? ’, and then a conversation begins. This is the scenario that inspires me when I design objects as strange as this one.” PLEASE NOTE: This item isn’t a functional juicer and is not suitable for food use.
