12.4 cm. Designed by Jasper Morrison, the Oplight wall light combines reduced
dimensions with impeccable lines. It consists of a wall bracket that supports a
thin, ovoid-shaped, flattened diffuser-tray that lights upwards. A true
exercise in simplicity, the Oplight wall light complements the architecture and
spaces it illuminates. He was awestruck by this object in the making and decided
to rework the project alongside Flos, taking care above all to keep the
simplicity of line as well as its use, so dear to Pio Manzù. Oplight
demonstrates that state-of-the-art products can be manufactured with respect for
the environment. Although the thicknesses are minimal, no glue was used to
assemble the different parts, which can therefore be separated, replaced
individually and recycled separately, depending on the material. The shell is
made of die-cast aluminium, a material that’s light, durable and easy to
recycle. The powder coating doesn’t contain harmful solvents. Oplight's LED
light source is very efficient, that is, it emits a large amount of light in
relation to the power consumed, with a lifespan of over 50,000 hours. In the
event of a malfunction, or later when more efficient light sources become
available, the LED board can be replaced without having to throw away the rest
of the lamp, with significant savings in terms of resources. This is possible
because the LED board isn’t glued to the heat dissipater as usually happens,
and its replacement doesn’t require sophisticated equipment. The transparent
diffuser, which also acts as a lens, is made of injection-moulded polycarbonate.
Highly flexible, it can be removed and reinstalled to access the LED light
source. For all these reasons, Oplight is a future-proof lamp destined to last a
long time. Jasper Morrison: “I like the idea that you can use Oplight in a
