The Franco-Italian duo Moustache bring us a personal, unexpected piece… Their Replica collection reproduces exceptional, rare or particularly interesting old pieces, making them visible and accessible again. The first two items are a pair of Japanese bronze pencil boxes dating from the 18th century. These pencil boxes were offered to Stéphane Arriubergé from Moustache by the Italian painter Léonor Fini (1908–1996). The original bronze pieces were scanned in 3D to make perfect ceramic replicas using a mould produced with a multi-axis CNC milling machine. The Replica 1 model is decorated with delicate relief patterns on the theme of flora and fauna. Bristling with details, this romantic landscape typical of Japanese art depicts a monkey and a young deer moving around in a forest. With the Replica collection, the Moustache duo reinterpret the decorative arts, materials and traditional skills. They transform a unique object, the fruit of ancestral artisanal know-how, into a reproducible item, produced in series using cutting-edge technology. This object exudes a poetry that challenges our emotions and arouses poetic feelings. Replica 1 and Replica 2 can be used as a pencil box or trinket bowl.
