The polenta boards are made from alder wood. They are not painted but merely oiled, and can be re-oiled whenever they begin to fade after several washes. They are not dishwasher safe! The same applies to the knife! The plate is slightly concave; this ensures that even if the polenta is a bit soft, it does not spill over the edge. Additionally, the plate has two handles for easy handling.
